Syeda Ghulam Fatima: A Pakistani Superwoman

For the past nearly 3 decades Syeda Ghulam Fatima has been endeavoring to make every possible effort to eradicate bonded labor in brick kilns, carpet and various agriculture industries as well as to safeguard the rights of workers. To achieve this, she established an NGO Bonded Labour Liberation Front Pakistan of which she is the General Secretary. To date she has been successful in liberating an estimated 80,000 bonded laborers across the country, and has created centers for their protection and support. She also provides training to women in different skills for poverty alleviation.

At national level she has conducted seminars, arranged rallies and many other events, and has participated in many international forums to create awareness and highlight the severity of the issue as well.

Global Recognition

Last month her efforts were internationally acknowledged at the Clinton Global Citizen Awards as she was awarded Leadership in Civil Society, in a special ceremony held on 27th September. The award was initiated in 2007, with the objective to honor individuals from all over the world who are striving for the betterment of humans; by formulating effective long-term solutions for economy, healthcare, poverty, statutory rights and women empowerment.
